چکیده

Calcific tendinitis of the rotator cuff is often encountered in daily clinical practice, but cases with rotator cuff tears associated with ossification in the rotator cuff are extremely rare. We experienced a 74-year-old male case with ossification in the rotator cuff associated with extensive tearing. At another hospital he had been diagnosed with calcific rotator cuff tendinitis and treated conservatively, although his symptoms did not improve and tended to worsen gradually. His past medical history was unremarkable. On plain radiography a tumor-like shadow was found in the proximal portion of the musculus supraspinatus. On computed tomography the mass was isointense to the epiphysis, and on magnetic resonance imaging almost isointense to the bone marrow, and was judged to be ossification. Extensive tearing of the rotator cuff was also present. Since pain was severe and the range of motion was markedly restricted Reverse shoulder arthroplasty was performed. The postoperative course was favorable with no recurrence of the ossification or pain. Reports of myositis officans in the rotator cuff, an extremely rare condition, have hitherto been limited to 4 cases, 3 of which had ossification in the musculus supraspinatus. Because such lesions may end up being diagnosed as calcinosis, the fact that ossified lesions may develop within the rotator cuff needs to be kept in mind.

Interstitial Tear of the Subscapularis Tendon, Arthroscopic Findings and Technique of Repair

Tears of the subscapularis tendon have been significantly recognized as a source of shoulder pain and dysfunction in the past decade, thanks to arthroscopic evaluation of the shoulder and biomechanical and anatomical studies of the tendon. Current classification of subscapularis tendon tear is based on insertion site of the tendon. Recently, a classification for non-insertional types of subsc...

Healing of Complete Tear of the Anterior Talofibular Ligament and Early Ankle Stabilization after Autologous Platelet Rich Plasma: a Case Report and Literature Review

Lateral Ankle sprain (LAS) is a common sports injury associated with recurrent ankle sprain, chronic ankle instability(CAI) and post-traumatic ankle osteoarthritis (PTOA). Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) has been increasingly used forherapeutic applications in sports-related injuries, and is thought to stimulate tissue healing. We reported a case ofLAS with complete tear of anterior talofibular liga...

Short term results of arthroscopic repair of subscapularis tendon tear

Abstract   Background: Despite being the largest rotator cuff tendon of the shoulder, the   function and clinical relevance of subscapularis pathology has been largely ignored   in the literature. Although many studies have focused on subscapularis tears recently,   majority of them reported techniques for open repair. The advent of arthroscopy and   arthroscopic repair techniques has opened ...

Treatment of Massive Irreparable Rotator Cuff Tear with Arthroscopic Subacromial Bursectomy, Biceps Tenotomy, and Tuberoplasty

Background: The alternative surgery for massive and irreparable shoulder rotator cuff tears in older patients is thedebridement of subacromial bursa, biceps tenotomy, and tuberoplasty (reverse acromioplasty). This study aimed toreport the effectiveness of such a treatment performed arthroscopically in a small group of patients for a short periodof time. Methods: This pros...

Ossified Dorsal Wrist Ganglion Cyst: A Case Report

Ganglion cysts are the most common wrist tumors, and 60 -70% originate dorsally from the scapholunate interval.  Ossification of these lesions is exceedingly rare, with only one such lesion located in the finger reported in the literature. We present a case of an ossified dorsal wrist ganglion in a 68-year-old woman.
